When a patient comes to the hospital with stroke symptoms, it’s crucial to make a proper diagnosis quickly in order to begin treatment to minimize the effects of a stroke. The stroke care team at Freeman Health System delivers potentially life-saving care for ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes, and can perform treatment options such as providing embolizing agents (clotting medications) delivered by catheter to stop blood flow resulting from hemorrhagic stroke or thrombolytic therapy to deliver clot-dissolving medicine to treat ischemic strokes.
Freeman Health System in Bentonville and Springdale have earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® as anAdvanced Primary Stroke Centeralong with the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s (AHA/ASA) Heart-Check mark, both symbols of quality from the respective organizations. The Heart-Check mark can only be displayed by hospitals that have met all requirements set by the heart and stroke associations. Freeman Health System – Siloam Springs Medical Center is certified as anAcute Stroke Ready Hospital also by The Joint Commission.
Freeman Health System – Bentonville Medical Center received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines® – Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award in addition to the American Heart Association’s Target: Type 2 Honor Roll award.
Freeman Health System has partnered with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Institute for Digital Health & Innovation (IDHI) to provide life-savingemergency care for stroke patients in the region. IDHI uses a high-speed video communications system to help provide immediate, life-saving treatments to stroke patients 24 hours a day. This real-time video communication enables a stroke neurologist to evaluate whether emergency room physicians should use a powerful clot-busting drug within the critical time period following the first signs of stroke.
The IDHI Stroke Program is a partnership between UAMS, the state Department of Human Services and 56 other Arkansas hospitals. For more information, visit the IDHI website.
Following a stroke, patients can continue their rehabilitation in the acute inpatient rehabilitation unit, available at Freeman Health System – Springdale Medical Center. There to help individuals regain their independence, this multidisciplinary team provides caring, personalized assistance to help patients meet their goals.
