With traditional hip and knee replacement surgery, doctors have to make several large incisions. Using robotic-assisted techniques, orthopedic surgeons require only a few small ones. Surgeons use a virtual 3D model to customize each patient’s surgical plan prior to the procedure. They then guide the robotic arm to perform the surgery. For many patients, this means faster recovery and more accurate alignment for greater stability and mobility.
Through CT and X-ray-based modeling of bone anatomy, surgeons can create a personalized surgical plan and identify the implant size, orientation and alignment based on each patient’s unique anatomy. The robotic system also enables surgeons to virtually modify the surgical plan intra-operatively and assists the surgeon in executing bone resections.
